Tech Fair Workshop Descriptions

Session 1: Digital Storytelling + Standards = Learning
Learn how to combine academics and creative freedom in film in order to render authentic assessments and high quality results. View student-created academic videos, see a sample unit plan for film integration, and find out how to do it all within district pacing guide parameters!

Session 2: What About the Music?
Learn how to add power to your movies! Learn how to create your own musical scores and add sound effects to your movies with Garageband and SmartSound. (PSUSD has a district license!)

Session 3:
Learn how to create digital books to be viewed on the web, iPad, or print for work or personal life. See some great examples and get your hands dirty!

Session 4: Open Mic: My Favorite Apps
Sit around the table. Munch a bit while you share your favorite apps. Join our open forum. The audience becomes the presenter as everyone has a chance to share their favorite apps for their Pad Tablets (iPad) and Smartphones.

Session 5: iPads in the Classroom
You have an iPad and you've mastered Angry Birds, but how do you use it instructionally? Come and jump start use of the iPad in your classroom by accessing tutorials and lessons. Find out how to join our community of Lead Learners. Get the support you need from your peers AND share your expertise as you learn!

Session 6: Dynamic WebSite Using Google
Learn how to make FREE websites for your classrooms. All you need is a gmail account. Google sites have templates made just for teachers. You can upload your PowerPoints, Excel worksheets, Word Documents, list web pages, add gadgets, calendars, pictures, and lots more.

IMPORTANT NOTE: To participate in the hands-on session you MUST have a gmail account set up BEFORE you come to the workshop. This must be done from home and outside the District firewall. Just go to the gmail set up page and create your account. Once you have an account created you can access your web page and google tools from anywhere in or outside of the district with an internet connection. If you need help to do this, email Angela Gallacher at agallacher@psusd.us.

Session 7: Can You Mobi Now? Tools of a Digital Classroom
Discover how the MOBILITY of using the MOBI View changes classroom instruction. The MOBI View in combination with CPS Clickers is a teacher’s best tool in a 21st century classroom. Formative assessment is foremost on the minds of teachers. Ask a question to your class, and then see ALL the students’ responses directly on the MOBI’s data screen. The result is increased student engagement and teacher’s adjusting lessons accordingly. Come away with an activity you can use in your class on Monday! This is a MUST HAVE resource. Thinkfinity is a recommended resource of the CA Department of Ed and it’s FREE.
